The Detour Gets
a Full Reboot
After a long 16 months without video games and Skee-ball accompanied by cocktails and food, The Detour (2200 Market St) came pinging back to life last week. And this week, Fa-Word can report that weekly events are starting back up, and the food menu that had just launched a couple months before COVID hit is getting some new additions as well.
As owner Shawn Vergara tells us, in addition to the well received new menu of Asian street-food-inspired stuff, "We’re getting ready to roll out a couple more pizzas that might feel a little more classic, including a take on a meat lover’s." Also on the way is a new pork sandwich — and night owls should note that The Detour is going to be serving food later than pretty much anywhere else in the Castro, with the kitchen closing at 11:30 on weeknights, and 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
Monday nights you can find casual Super Smash Bros. tournaments on the big screens, as well as a Killer Queen meetup and pinball leagues in back starting up soon. Tuesdays are board game nights, with an emphasis on quick and fun games. Wednesdays are for trivia, and Thursdays are viewing parties of 'Rupaul's Drag Race All-Stars' — until the season ends, when drag queen bingo will take over Thursdays. And everybody should note that all-ages hours are now Saturday afternoon only, with families welcome. But Sundays, which used to be all-ages, are now for adults only for Sunday Funday fun.
