SHE'S BACK!

SHE'S BACK!

Oasis has had a year of ups and downs, and owner D’Arcy Drollinger says that some of her darkest days were this past winter. With back rent due and an understanding landlord becoming more impatient, the six-year-old SoMa drag cabaret and nightclub looked to be on the brink of closing for good. But a March telethon — done in old-timey fashion with drag queens manning phones on camera while others performed, albeit live-streamed on the internet — ended up raising around $270,000, enough to pay the rent and do some remodeling before a planned reopening on Pride weekend.

Drollinger tells Fa-Word that the grand re-opening will kick off on June 26 with Princess, the new Saturday party that replaces Mother — "Part dance party, part drag spectacle,” as she puts it. A first round of $20 tickets for the party went on sale last week and sold out in a flash, but more will be released after the city clarifies rules around capacity limits — if there are any — post-June 15th.

There’s a Sunday Pride party on the Oasis roof and on the dance floor, just like old times, on June 27. "After that we will be resuming a regular schedule for the most part,” Drollinger says.

There will be a new monthly Friday night party called 'Reparations,' hosted by Nicki Jizz, and feature all Black drag talent, as well as the continuation of 'Glamamore’s Good Drag,' also a monthly on Fridays. A new party called Prime, which Drollinger describes as “a really sexy party, just in time for Dore,” launches on July 23. And also coming to Oasis is the Los Angeles-based tribute party to the music of Madonna and Donna Summer, called 'MaDonna Summer.'

"And of course our Cabaret will be back in full force with many of our favorites including Lady Bunny, Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, Varla Jean Merman, Dina Martina, Coco Peru, Katya Smirnoff-SkyY, and productions like 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer Live’ and 'Harry Poofter,’” Drollinger says.

Look for a newly remodeled roof deck with a more open floor plan, a remodeled front bar with an actual stage and more lighting, and fabulous new murals by Diego Gomez (inside), and Josh Katz — a portrait of Sylvester on the exterior’s Folsom Street side.

"It’s sort of unbelievable that the city is about to reopen and we are able To open up again,” Drollinger says. "I can’t wait to unveil the upgraded space, start all the parties and shows, and be the queer clubhouse San Francisco really needs right now."
